Gold Frog is an antique nursing chair from the 19th century (1850-1875). Also known as a ‘chauffeuse’. The front has been covered with a Suzani from Uzbekistan. Suzani is the Persian word for needle. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made in the region of Central Asia. They are an important part of a girl’s dowry and are also used for decorative purposes in Central Asian households. An unbelievable amount of time and care goes into the making of each suzani. Suzanis used to be dyed with natural pigments extracted from e.g. the root of the madder plant, walnuts, indigo plants, pomegranates and sumac berries. The suzani used on Gold Frog shows flowers. Most people believe that the flower motives are symbols of fertility and prosperity. The back of Gold Frog has been upholstered with fabric Lamba from Osborne & Little.
