Humble Himba is a walnut Fauteuil à la Reine in Regènce style (1715–1723). Humble Himba has prominent cabriole legs. The front side of the chair has been upholstered with a new fabric Papilio Plain II from Osborne & Little. An embroidered strip from Uzbekistan has been attached to the front of the seat. The back of the chair has been covered with a Suzani fabric with bright colors. Suzanis used to be dyed with natural pigments extracted from the root of the madder plant, walnuts, indigo plants, pomegranates and sumac berries. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made in the region of Central Asia. They are an important part of a girl’s dowry and are also used for decorative purposes in Central Asian households. An unbelievable amount of time and care goes into the making of each suzani.
