Columba Livia is an antique nursing chair from the second part of the 19thcentury (1850-1900), also known as a ‘chauffeuse’. The front has been covered with a Suzanifrom Uzbekistan. Suzani is the Persian word for needle. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made in the region of Central Asia. They are an important part of a girl’s dowry and are also used for decorative purposes in Central Asian households. The suzani used on chair Columba Livia shows flowers and birds.
