Opium is a so called Louis XV Bergère style chair. The chair is made from beech wood and has cabriole legs. The front has been upholstered with a new fabric Georges Le Manach Les Écaillesfrom Pierre Frey. The back of the chair has been covered with a Suzanifrom Uzbekistan. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made in the region of Central Asia. They are an important part of a girl’s dowry and are also used for decorative purposes in Central Asian households. The suzani used on chair Opium shows flowers. Most people believe that the flower motives are symbols of fertility and prosperity.
