Rainbow Lory is an antique nursing chair from the 19th century (1850-1875). Also know as a ‘chauffeuse’. The back of Rainbow Lory is upholstered with a bright pink fabric from Casamance. The front is covered with a Suzani fabric from Uzbekistan. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made in the region of Central Asia. The suzani on Rainbow Lory shows a bird swarm. Birds symbolize a supernatural link between heaven and earth. They can be seen as the carriers of the soul between heaven and earth. Birds on flight represent hope, beauty and transcendence of our soul.
