chair zara
Zara means ‘star’ or ‘flower’ in the Arabic language
Zara is an Edwardian nursing chair from the second part of the 19thcentury (1850-1900) also known as a ‘chauffeuse’ or so-called ‘nursing chair’. Zara is made from mahogany wood. It has a typical design with short wooden legs on copper wheels. On the seating of the chair a suzanifabric has been used. Suzanis are embroidered pieces of cloth made by women in the region of Central Asia. They are an important part of a girl’s dowry and are also used for decorative purposes in Central Asian households. An unbelievable amount of time and care goes into the making of each suzani.
